Brunswick County wildfire grows to 300 acres, containment drops

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - The North Carolina Forest Service and area fire departments continue working a large wildfire near Old Georgetown Road and Green Swamp Road in the Shallotte area, according to Brunswick County officials.

According to the North Carolina Forest Service wildfire viewer, the fire has grown to approximately 300 acres and is 10% contained as of 4:18 p.m. Saturday, a 50% drop since Friday night’s containment of 60%.

‘It’s getting ridiculous’: Darlington residents reflect on back-to-back shootings in 2 days

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - Back-to-back shootings have caused residents in one Darlington neighborhood to want justice, safety, and change.

The shootings were close in location and happened within two days of each other.

The first shooting happened Friday on Guess Street, leaving a 19-year-old dead and a 6-year-old injured.

The second shooting happened on Saturday night, according to Darlington Police Chief Jimmy Davis, along Limit Street, less than a five-minute drive away from Guess Street.

ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Nineteen people were injured in a stampede at the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest early Sunday morning, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

All 19 people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Three were taken to a hospital for treatment.

‘Very unexpected’: Parent seeks justice after 11-year-old shot in Socastee area apartment

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An 11-year-old girl is recovering after she was shot in a Friday morning shooting in the Socastee area.

Horry County Police responded to the shooting, which happened at 2:05 a.m. in the Foxtrot Villas neighborhood.

On Saturday after 6 p.m., Myrtle Beach police responded to calls of a reported large fight and someone brandishing a weapon along Ocean Boulevard.

A police report indicates that the disturbance occurred in the parking lot of the Skywheel, a popular tourist attraction.

Myrtle Beach man with 33 arrests since 2009 denied bond on most recent charges

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach man with 33 arrests in the past two decades will stay in jail.

Shane Cook, 35, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping in January after he allegedly kept a woman from leaving, took her phone and pushed her into the blinds, according to Myrtle Beach police.

Records show Cook has been arrested 33 times, with mugshots dating back to 2009. Public records show police arrested him 11 times in 2025 alone.

‘It was unacceptable’: Mom speaks out after Conway daycare worker charged with pushing toddler

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Mom expresses her feelings after daycare at a church in Conway fired a teacher for allegedly pushing a child.

Officers with the Conway Police Department responded around 4:32 p.m. Feb. 25 to Mercy Baptist Church at the 2800 block of Fourth Avenue.

Alyssa Morlang, 22, of Conway, who worked at the church’s daycare, pushed the child off a raised deck area around 10 a.m. that day, and the child fell face-first to the ground, according to police documents.

Florence community reacts to back-to-back shootings hours apart

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Two shootings on Monday, hours apart, have left the Florence community shaken.

The first shooting occurred on the 200th block of North Coit Street. Police said a suspect in a silver Honda Accord fired shots at an individual.

The victim, who was identified as 23-year-old Deandre Lyde, later died.

Police are looking into a possible suspect but are still seeking information about the driver and the car’s whereabouts.

Woman convicted of kidnapping Heather Elvis requests new trial

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The woman convicted in a high-profile missing person case in Horry County wants a new trial.

Documents show that Tammy Moorer filed post-conviction relief on Thursday.

Juries found Tammy and her husband, Sidney Moore, guilty of kidnapping Heather Elvis in 2013.

They are both serving 30-year prison sentences.

But in the post-conviction relief documents, Tammy claims her attorneys made mistakes during her 2018 trial, and she was denied her right to a fair trial.

Long-term residency motel in Myrtle Beach shows almost 40 violations, residents to vacate
